Free Parking For The Duration Of The Parade
This weekend, the University of Georgia will host a parade to celebrate the National Championship football team. Parking is free on campus through the day, but you should plan ahead. The first thing you’ll want to do is check the parking map on UGA’s Transportation and Parking Services website to see what areas you’ll need to avoid. You can also park in the North Campus Deck, which offers free parking throughout the day.
If you’re parked on Sweetheart Circle, you should make sure you move it by the time the parade begins. After noon, vehicles that are parked there will be in town. That includes vehicles owned by university departments. You can also park on the street, but you’ll want to stay away from the parade route. There are about 30 to 40 cars towed during the parade, so park wisely.
If you don’t want to park on the streets near the parade route, there are some off-site parking lots that are accessible. You can also use the free shuttle buses to get from these lots to Town Center Park, but the shuttle service will be limited on parade day. Just remember that all shuttles will be dog-friendly and will have A/C.
Parking Decks On The South Lumpkin Campus Are Functionally Inaccessible
Parking decks on the South Lumpkin campus are not accessible to the general public. Instead, the best option is to park on the other side of West Broad Street, where you will find plenty of parking lots. A few options include the Washington Street Deck at 140 West Hancock Avenue, 440 College Avenue, and 550 North Jackson Street. Another option is the Prestige Parking lot on the courthouse campus. Parking decks are also available in front of Tyche’s Games and the Christus Victor Lutheran Church.
South Lumpkin Street is a major thoroughfare, but it lacks standing room and a number of stores. The streets along South Lumpkin are filled with UGA infrastructure, but there are few places to set up shop. You may find some standing room near Baxter Street, University Court/Cedar Street, and Smith Street.
